When to Visit Munnar: A Month-by-Month Guide
At 1,600 metres, Munnar runs its own weather independent of the rest of Kerala. Knowing what a given month looks like changes what you pack and what you can actually do.
December to February — peak season
Cool mornings near 10°C, clear skies, and the best visibility across the tea estates. This is when Munnar is busiest, so book stays several weeks ahead.
March to May — warm and quiet
Daytime temperatures climb into the low 20s, but it’s still far cooler than the coast. Fewer crowds and better rates on hillside resorts.
June to September — monsoon
Waterfalls are at their fullest and the hills turn a saturated green, but expect heavy afternoon rain and some road closures on the higher routes.
October to November — post-monsoon
Our favourite window: waterfalls still running, hills freshly green, and none of the peak-season crowds.
